Brushed by death

Farhad Aziz

“How dare a mere mortal try to enter the gates to the underworld which determines punishment and judgement; happiness for eternity and fear”. The calm and deep voice yet filled with the essence of sagacity and surety; declared to me questioning my choices of life or death.

Curiosity and interest have been taking over mankind for decades. It loads to victory, learning the new and different kinds of wonders which was hidden in this world; but this leads to the demise of those who have been completely ruled by the peculiar feeling leading our hearts uncontrollably.

I would say that this bizarre feeling led me to believe in uncanny and queer things that were totally unbelievable. I had been addicted to Greek mythology for years but at a point I had to let go of it due to the responsibilities of life. On my holiday in Italy, it was then when my belief came to life.

Now, let me lead you to a story that shall lead you to folklore, ancient Greece and the place where time has stopped, fantasies become true for those who end up as the ones with supernatural powers.

It was the best holiday I needed for a refreshing pause from my world of work. It was facing the sea, where coral and pearls glimmered in the light blue calm sea. The sun smiling at me, and the specks of gold which would catch your eye, embedded with dazzling and uniquely coloured seashells.

After my lavish breakfast which was of the delights one desires: caramel apple and cinnamon rolls blueberry pancakes which smelled as sweet as honey, which would make your mouth water, Danish waffles and more. I simply felt delighted. I went out for a walk and to explore a nearby cave.

The cave had caught my eye. It was the only place where nobody was seen. All the seashells, sands and all types of birds or any living being avoided the area of the mysterious cave. It stimulated me to check out the premises. I left at night when all was silent. The waves which were dark black, fell asleep and the stars had awoke turning their rhythm of twinkles.

I stepped my foot inside, shadows danced on the glimmering walls. The cave called out to me. They were all whispering, souls of despair were reaching out to me, asking me to join their demise and downfall. They have taken hold of every part of me forcing me to venture deeper through the cave. I felt like I was being hypnotized.

Suddenly the cave rumbled…The Gods had felt the essence of life. They questioned me and pulled me deeper into the underworld. The house of Hades, the God of death and in all the underworld. He is the king of it, and I had crossed the line, immediately got a hold of myself, but it was too late I thought so. The ruthless king questioned me while I was being pulled to death, but gladly I stopped back and satisfied the Gods anger. My fate was to be determined….
